I am a sucker for Science Fiction books.
I am fine with them being a bit on the shallow side, and happy to read them till the end as long as they flow. That said, when you get to read a really good book, it is hard to put it down.
These past couple of weeks, I had a real problem – I had huge amounts of work, the good wife and… science fiction books.
In the past, I’ve already shared my list of “low cost” SciFi series on Amazon Kindle.
I’ve been reading these series from beginning to end. All of them. Making a point to purchase any new book that comes out.
I wanted to share the two that invaded my sleeping time lately…
Wool’s Prequel / Hugh Howey
Wool is a great series of stories. Shift, considered to be the sequel (but for me the prequel), gives the story around the silos – how the dystopian world that Hugh Howey depicts so grimly came to be.
If what you want is get into a brooding mood, then all of the books/series of this world form a great read.
This part of the series closes the gaps for Wool, placing the storyline into a plausible near future of ours.
Wool’s Sequel / Hugh Howey
So we had Wool, which deals with an imaginary society living inside a large underground bunker (silo).
And then Shift, which deals with how this society got there.
We now have Dust, outlining the story of how they got out of there.
The book description says it nicely:
WOOL introduced the silo and its inhabitants.
SHIFT told the story of their making.
DUST will chronicle their undoing.
Welcome to the underground.
Loved it.
Rho Agenda’s Prequel / Richard Phillips
I enjoyed reading The Rho Agenda series very much. Richard Phillips knows how to grip me in a way others just can’t. I was overjoyed to find out that he decided to write yet another series in this story line, a prequel The Rho Agenda Inception.
I started reading the first book in this prequel, Once Dead, a week ago. Finished it yesterday and went to purchase the next one in this series. The sad thing?
- I need to read a WebRTC book to review it before continuing with this series (priorities…)
- The third book won’t be available until June
Anyway, the story here takes place before the one of The Rho Agenda, and it looks at two of the main characters of the earlier later books. Less science fiction and more of a thriller, not that this mattered to me.

Now that I got that off the chest, feel free to recommend other science fiction books for me. Got about a 100 waiting on my Kindle, but I can always add a few more to my reading list.
