Assuming that is true, there’s also the issue of being able to update and upgrade the system while it is running and operational in production for all of its customers. That’s hard to do.

Based on the keynote, Twilio has been at 99.999 for over 2 years with no downtime plus they have no maintenance windows. I believe this is due to the number of carriers and data centers Twilio has vs. the rest of the industry.

I guess you are correct.

I wonder how does that compare to competition in what they guarantee in their SLA and what is their actual uptime.

So not that impressive.

I am doing well – thanks. Glad you enjoyed this piece – it took only 3 days to write 🙂

Genbad Kandy isn’t competing with Twilio. The companies competing with them in the scenario you suggest are the carriers. For carriers to create thriving API businesses that can compete with Twilio is a rather hard thing to do. Not that carriers can’t succeed with APIs, I am just thinking that aiming at Twilio would be the wrong thing to do.
Sonus adds nothing into this equation of helping carriers in CPaaS.

Broadsoft might be a great company, but have you ever heard of a developer who was contemplating the use of Broadsoft versus Twilio? I think they are serving different markets at the moment.

How does Twilio compete vs. Genband’s Kandy? Genband does a lot of SIP App Servers for carriers and have established relationships. Now with the Sonus/Genband merger, current CEO Dave Walsh will become the Pres. of the Kandy LOB. I think that will make them a force to be reckoned with. They can help the carriers have their own Twilio, no? What about Broadsoft? IMHO that’s the troika to be reckoned with in the CPaaS space, nu?

Is there anyone else I missed? What are your impressions? Enjoyed the long post…

Obviously that’s your impression.

To make things somewhat clear and in the open – I haven’t been paid by Twilio for some time now. I haven’t been to the SIGNAL event this year. I haven’t been paid to write this article. These are my impressions from what I’ve read and viewed online of the event and the announcements.

If there’s anything specific you don’t agree or feel different, I’ll be more than happy to hear.
