I think Microsoft will stretch this one out. There have one real reason and two excuses. The real reason is Skype – the longer they have the better prepared they will be for a world with WebRTC in it.

The excuses are SDP and VP8. Both are still on the table…

Have a look at the end of this article:

As I understand it, it’s just a new API, which browsers can support. Maybe not all browsers will support it, but as long as they can still connect over the same protocol… life might not be amazing, but as long as people can make it work easily enough. Probably with a shim.
